There are basically two types of physicians. One type specifically refers to the General Medical Practitioners and the other type is Specialist Physicians. As their respective title suggests, General Practitioners or Family doctors as they are called, treat and diagnose general ailments, but they need to refer to Specialist Physicians for further treatment of major illnesses.

General Responsibilities of a Physician:

Here is a list of some of the important tasks physicians need to follow.

  •       First of all, they review the medical history of a patient. And recognize their present symptoms and collaborate with the patient’s other doctors that he/she might be seeing.
  •       Doctors provide basic first-hand treatment on injuries caused by accidents; they diagnose diseases and refer to other specialists when it’s required.
  •       They are very well trained in operating and monitoring medical equipment and conducting and ordering tests, such as ultrasounds, ECG or electrocardiogram and x-rays.
  •       A medical practitioner, on diagnosing a specific illness, provides appropriate treatments like medications, surgery, diet etc. Also, they refer to a specialist for further examination.
  •       Being able to provide with anaesthesia before performing or assisting in surgery is a basic requirement for Physicians.
  •       One of the many responsibilities of a doctor is to provide medical help and urgent assistance in emergency situations.
  •       Other responsibilities include the detailed supervision of a patient and ensuring the patient follows diagnosed treatments and the condition of their health.
  •       Doctors also provide counselling to patients and their families and educate them on the diagnosis and treatment and making changes in the treatment if it doesn’t improve.
  •       A doctor also leads a group of the health team and instructs them on how to coordinate the patient’s healthcare. They also comply with safety standards to provide the patient with a safe, sterilized environment.

Daily Routine of a Physician:

Physicians provide basic diagnosis and treatment of diseases, injuries and other health issues with the help or routine checkups. They prescribe with required medications and treat the patient in the most initial stages of the disease and therefore determine the further condition of the patient. Before referring the patient to a Specialist, they handle the condition and take adequate measures to provide them with basic care.

A Physician may be the general practitioner but can treat all these and many other sub-specialized fields such as Nephrology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Psychiatry (mental health) and many more. They treat based on different parts of our bodies. And it is a basic requirement to understand what specific doctor you need as per your physical problem.
