Decades ago, a person’s source of entertainment was mainly composed of newspapers, television shows, and magazines. But in today’s era, you now have social media in the mix where random people can quickly get famous because of comedic skits, pieces of beauty advice, and so much more. There is a common denominator in all of these people: they all look ridiculously good. Picture-perfect hair, perfectly arched eyebrows, shiny lips, and blushed cheeks. Don’t forget the toned bodies, too.
When people like what they see, they emulate it because they like to be perceived as beautiful like the people they see on social media. There’s nothing wrong with it, but it has made countless people insecure with their bodies-bodies that they don’t have control over. It has put pressure and unrealistic beauty standards.
Beauty standards have encouraged a lot of people to have their own beauty regimen as well. These beauty regimens are what make them physically beautiful and confident. These are inspired by their idols on television, in magazines, and on social media.
Skincare Routines
You may have heard about the 10-Step Korean Skincare Routine that everyone has been raving about. The truth is, they don’t actually work for everyone because of the difference in skin types. However, this has not stopped a lot of people because they have established their own skincare routine. Skincare routines must be followed accordingly to achieve and maintain the type of skin you desire to have.
Having a skincare routine is a must because our skin is the first defense against environmental factors. The harmful rays of the sun can age our skin quickly. That’s why we have to take care of it by maintaining a good skincare routine.
Skincare Clinic Treatments
Some people go to skincare clinics to get rid of their pimples, stretch marks, and other imperfections that they have. One common treatment among women is underarm whitening, where women get underarm whitening treatment sessions to lighten their pigmented underarms. Other treatments include facials, slimming treatments, scar removal, etc. They come at different prices, depending on the severity of the treatment.
Working Out
People like to have a toned body as well as be fit. Working out helps you achieve a toned body and improve your strength in general. Working out can be performed in the gym or at home as long as you have gym equipment. Furthermore, this should be accompanied by a balanced diet to ensure that your calorie intake is less than the calories you burn.
Going under the Knife
People have insecurities that are buried deep down, and they think that these can be fixed by going under the knife. There is nothing wrong with this as long as it will be done by a reputable plastic surgeon. There will be health complications if the procedure is performed by a pseudo-doctor. They should also conduct research behind the procedure, so they fully understand the possible complications.
Makeup
Makeup is used to enhance beauty or conceal imperfections. People wear makeup every day for their school or work, and wearing makeup also increases confidence. With the number of beauty gurus on YouTube, it’s no wonder how teens as young as 13 already know their way around makeup. However, parents should still monitor the use of makeup at such a young age because their skin is not as firm or resistant as an adult’s.
The age of digitalization has opened many opportunities as well as insecurities. People now have more platforms where they can compare themselves to the people on the other side of the screen. This is not good because it puts pressure on a person to look good as well. They’re convinced that if they don’t look like the person they idolize, then they are not beautiful, which is not true because beauty is subjective. What’s beautiful for one person may not be beautiful for the other.
Although there is nothing wrong with making yourself beautiful, you should know that beauty is not everything. You also have to invest in your personality, passion-basically everything that involves substance or something that makes you interesting beyond your physical beauty.
Physical beauty fades over time, and people will remember you for your character and how you get along with others. It’s only skin-deep and will lose its importance quickly if your character is anything but. So if you want to make yourself desirable physically, you should do the same with your character. Invest in other things aside from your beauty because your beauty is a mere front or accessory.
